Commander

Lance Pendleton

AM3 - Navy - 1998 - 2002


Commander Lance Pendleton currently serves as the Post Commander of VFW Post 10374. His journey through service is marked by dedication, bravery, and a commitment to helping others both in military and civilian capacities.


Commander Pendleton began his illustrious career in the US Navy, achieving the rank of petty officer third class. He was stationed at Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine, with Fleet Logistic Support Squadron 62, known as the VR-62 Nor’Easters.


During his tenure with VR-62, he was deployed to the Middle East to support Operation Enduring Freedom. His service also took him to Sigonella, Sicily, where he supported the US 6th Fleet.


Commander Pendleton's naval career is decorated with several honors, including the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Two Battle “E” Medals, Navy Unit Commendation, CNO Aviation Safety Award, Armed Forces Service Medal and several other distinctions


After his naval service, Commander Pendleton transitioned to a role as a Texas Peace Officer. Over 18 years, he continued to demonstrate valor and commitment to his community.


One of his most significant achievements came in 2021 when he earned the life-saving award. This honor was bestowed upon him for rendering life-saving measures to a stranger who collapsed while jogging through a neighborhood.


Commander Pendleton retired as a Texas Peace Officer in 2022. However, his dedication to public service did not end there. He has continued his efforts by working for the US Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration.

Kenneth Mendez

Staff Sergeant - Marine Corps - 1998 - 2009


Kenneth Mendez, also known as SSgt Mendez, is the current Senior Vice Commander, serving for nearly 2 years and nominated for a third term. He served 11 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as an 0311 (0369) Infantryman, entering in August 1998 and separating in August 2009. He spent 10 years at Camp Lejeune, deploying 4 times, as well as serving in a reserve unit in Grand Prairie, Texas.


His honors include the Combat Action Ribbon, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, two Navy Meritorious Unit Commendations, NATO Training Mission Medal, and several other awards.


Kenneth has been married to Deniece for 26 years and has three children. His oldest son currently serves in the Marine Corps, and his daughter serves in the Air Force.

Josh McCabe

STG3 - Navy - 2003 - 2011

  

Josh McCabe proudly served at the Naval Ocean Processing Facility, NAS Whidbey Island, WA where he separated from the Navy in 2011. 


During his time in service as STG (Sonar Technician Surface) he  operated and maintained advanced sonar systems like the AN/SQQ-89(V) and AN/SQQ-25A to support anti-submarine warfare missions. His duties included diagnostics, calibration, and routine maintenance to ensure operational readiness and accuracy. He interpreted sonar data to identify underwater threats and collaborated with shipboard command for mission-critical decisions. 


With over 3 years of sea service, He supported fleet operations and maritime security, including a tour to the Persian Gulf providing security for ABOT off the coast of Iraq. As a Master Helmsman, he navigated ships through the Straits of Hormuz and during numerous Unreps, training missions, and Marine force operations. 


Additionally, he served at MARMC Norfolk in the legal office as a Command Legal Rep where he conducted research and assisted in over 250 administrative military discharge cases, while also completing extensive research and prosecuting 40 non-judicial punishment cases under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, all of which resulted in a favorable outcome for the Navy. 


His commendations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (x2), Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Navy “E” Ribbon (3 times) for battle efficiency and operational excellence among other awards. 


He is currently employed at Mercedes-Benz Financial Services for nearly 10 yrs. In his most current role he is  a Call Center Services Analyst. He is the Genesys Systems owner, responsible for all telephony-related systems across locations in the US, Canada, Mexico, and El Salvador. 


Additionally, he served 5 years on the Rhome City Council, with 3 years as Mayor Pro Tem.
